Description

INTRODUCTION Enabling the participation of citizens in social, economic, and community life is considered to be one of the defining principles of an inclusive society and a key aspiration for the Australian Federal Government (Vinson, 2009). A key aspect of this principle is the ability to build the capacity of individuals to develop connectedness and to engage with decision making that improves the well being and prosperity of the communities in which they learn, work, and play. Central to the overall principle of inclusion is the ability for people to live well and to participate in the running of their communities and the development of government policy, contributing to the social capital of their communities and countries. This paper examines the concepts of social inclusion and the role of information in social inclusion processes in an Australian context.
